⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Unforgettable Sunrise Jeep Tour of Mt Batur! After reading some reviews mentioning the bumpy ride, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but it turned out to be one of the most incredible experiences of our trip! Our Jeep driver, Mang Arista, was absolutely amazing, friendly, knowledgeable, and such a skilled driver. He made the journey feel safe and fun, and he also turned out to be a fantastic photographer! We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. A special mention to Broto, our driver who picked us up from the resort. He was so lovely and accommodating, even though it was such a long day for him. His kindness really added to the experience. Watching the sunrise over Mt Batur was simply breathtaking, something I’ll remember forever. 🌄 Highly recommend this tour, it’s an absolute must-do in Bali!

Climbing Mount Batur was an unforgettable experience that you definitely shouldn’t miss. The whole morning was quite challenging, but absolutely worth it. The hike itself is demanding, yet manageable and thanks to our amazing tour guides it was much more enjoyable. After the hike, we visited the hot springs, which was the perfect way to relax and recover. It felt amazing to soak in the warm water after such an intense climb. Another highlight was the coffee plantation with a tasting session the staff were so attentive, explained everything in detail, and let us try many different kinds of coffee and tea. A special mention goes to our driver Aguss – right after the booking he texted us to arrange the pickup address. He was always waiting for us on time and made sure we got everywhere safely. Overall, it was a fantastic experience from start to finish highly recommended!

We had an amazing experience with our driver War Sana. I'm a right leg amputee and war sana made sure there was nothing I couldn't do, from helping me in & out of the jeep to bringing us breakfast & coffees to the jeep, taking some incredible photos for us at the sunrise, and providing such a fun experience, we also got the black volcano and where able to get out and explore there too. A huge thankyou to war sana for being so helpful & understanding we had the best time and you're a great guide! We also had an amazing taxi driver who took us too and from the location for the jeep, called endrik. This was brilliantly organised!

Tucked deep inside a narrow canyon near Bangli, Tukud Cepung waterfall hides behind mossy cliffs, only reachable after a short forest walk and a climb down a steep stairway. If you time it right, light beams pour through the rocky ceiling, turning the space into something that feels half-temple, half-movie set.

Unlike some of Bali’s more crowded waterfalls, this one remains calm, cool, and quiet, especially in the mornings. If you're visiting Mount Batur for sunrise, it’s often the next stop. Read this article to plan your trip to this amazing waterfall near Ubud.

Why it’s worth the stop

Mount batur
  • Cave setting: The waterfall flows inside a high-walled canyon, creating a dramatic setting you won’t find at open-air falls.
  • Iconic light beams: Visit between 9am and 11am and you might catch the famous shafts of sunlight slicing through the mist.
  • Adventurous access: It’s not strenuous, but getting here involves rocky paths, stairs, and ankle-deep stream crossings.
  • Post-hike cool-down: After your Mount Batur sunrise jeep ride or hike, this is a refreshing and quiet stop.

The surreal light beams of Tukad Cepung

Tukad Cepung

What makes Tukad Cepung feel otherworldly is the way sunlight filters through the cracks in the canyon roof. Around 9 to 10am, if the skies are clear, the beams cut down through mist and rock, creating an almost staged spotlight effect. Photos don’t need filters here because the effect itself is natural and dramatic. It’s why this spot has earned the nickname “Bali’s hidden cathedral of light.”

Swim in the shallow pool

Cool off in the clear, shallow water below the falls. It’s not deep, but it’s refreshing after your hike or jeep ride. Watch your step here cause the rocks can be slick.

Short canyon hike

Getting to the waterfall means descending steep stairs and walking through a narrow, mossy gorge. It’s short, scenic, and a bit of a thrill.

Explore the jungle edges

Beyond the waterfall, there are trails and quiet nooks with small shrines and dense greenery. It’s worth a few extra minutes if you're curious.

Pause for a photo or just to listen

Whether you’re snapping photos or sitting still, this is a place that rewards quiet attention.

Best time to visit Tukad Cepung waterfall

Tukad Cepung Waterfalls, Bali, Indonesia

The best time to visit is between 9am and 11am. That’s when sunlight angles through the canyon roof to create the waterfall’s famous light beams. The effect doesn’t last all day and depends on the weather, so mornings are your best bet.

Avoid late afternoons, especially during or after rain. The water level can rise, and the canyon can get darker and slippery. For the quietest experience, aim for a weekday visit just after your Mount Batur tour.
